Trails Guide / Safari Guide

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Trails Guide / Safari Guide to join our team and deliver exceptional guest experiences.

The ideal candidate will have strong bush knowledge, excellent guiding skills, and a commitment to safety, conservation, and guest satisfaction. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic outdoor environment and enjoys sharing the beauty of nature with guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safari-related activities, including game drives, bush walks, and guest activities.

  • Conduct morning drives, afternoon drives, night drives, family drives, and bush walks.

  • Lead safe, educational, and memorable bush walks.

  • Host guests and ensure a warm, professional, and engaging guest experience.

  • Participate in the Junior Conservationists programme.

  • Continue developing guiding knowledge and work towards further qualifications.

  • Assist with conservation and reserve-related activities when required.

  • Support the lodge and reserve teams with reasonable duties from time to time.

  • Treat fellow colleagues with respect and professionalism.

  • Look after guiding equipment and ensure it is maintained properly.

  • Ensure safari vehicles and equipment are always clean, neat, safe, and presentable.

  • Follow all lodge, reserve, and safety protocols during guiding activities.

  • Promote conservation awareness and responsible wildlife practices.

Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum FGASA Level 1, NQF 2.

  • Full Trails qualification preferred.

  • Back-up Trails Guide working towards Full Trails Guide may be considered.

  • Valid Wilderness First Aid certificate.

  • Valid Professional Driving Permit, also known as PrDP.

  • Valid Advanced Rifle Handling qualification.

  • SAPS business competency for rifle use.

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Mature, responsible, and professional nature.

  • Big 5 guiding experience will be preferred.

  • Strong guest interaction and communication skills.

  • Safety-conscious and calm under pressure.

  • Passionate about wildlife, conservation, and hospitality.
