Mechanical Engineer – Fire (Building Services)

Consulting Engineers based in Cape Town are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer – Fire to join their Building Services team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of multidisciplinary projects across South Africa and internationally, delivering innovative fire engineering solutions that ensure safety, compliance, and technical excellence.

Requirements

• BTech, BEng or BSc Eng in Mechanical Engineering.

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in fire engineering within a building services consulting environment.

• Proven experience in SANS deemed-to-satisfy fire design and rational fire safety design.

• Experience with thermal modelling will be advantageous.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng is essential.

• Strong project management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Duties

• Develop fire safety and fire compliance designs for building services projects.

• Design fire protection systems, including firefighting equipment, smoke evacuation systems, stair pressurisation systems, and sprinkler systems.

• Manage small to medium-sized projects with minimal supervision.

• Contribute to larger multidisciplinary projects as part of the fire design management team.

• Attend and represent TRIOCON at client meetings, design coordination meetings, and site inspections.

• Assist with tender documentation, technical reports, project administration, and design deliverables.

• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African standards and project-specific fire safety requirements.
