This is a critical execution-focused buying role, ideal for a dependable, commercially minded professional who thrives in operational procurement environments. Success in this position depends on accuracy, coordination, supplier management, and sound commercial judgement within defined procurement strategies.
Key Skills & Experience Required
Procurement & Buying Experience
• 3–5 years’ experience in a procurement, buying, or category support role, ideally within:
o FMCG
o Meat, poultry, seafood, or frozen foods
o Food manufacturing, export, or wholesale environments
• Proven experience with day-to-day buying activities, including:
o Placing and managing purchase orders
o Tracking orders from placement through delivery or shipment
o Managing supply continuity and product availability
• Experience working within defined buying strategies, with the ability to escalate higher-value or strategic negotiations when required
Product & Category Knowledge
• Practical understanding of chilled and frozen food products, particularly meat and protein categories
• Awareness of key cost drivers such as raw material pricing, seasonality, logistics, and energy costs
• Understanding of export, wholesale, or retail supply chain flows is a strong advantage
Supplier & Commercial Skills
• Experience sourcing, evaluating, and managing suppliers
• Strong supplier relationship management skills, with a focus on:
• Ability to support supplier-led promotions or marketing initiatives in collaboration with sales teams
Quality Assurance & Food Safety Awareness
• Working knowledge of food safety principles relevant to chilled and frozen foods
• Understanding of product quality standards and specifications
• Experience assisting with the resolution of quality issues or supply discrepancies
• Exposure to basic supplier audits or assessments (including virtual audits)
Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge
• Understanding of food safety and labelling regulations for chilled and frozen products
o Exposure to export-related compliance requirements, including PPECB processes , Veterinary department documentation, Shipment and product documentation readiness
Systems, Data & Reporting Skills
• Proficiency in procurement or ERP systems
• Strong attention to data accuracy
• Strong Excel or reporting skills are essential
Cross-Functional Coordination
o Proven ability to collaborate with Sales and commercial teams , Export controllers and logistics providers , Internal stakeholders across procurement and commercial functions
• Strong communication, organisation, and prioritisation skills
